A&S Collegium 2026
Sympkyn of the Moor
The weekend of the 19th and 20th September Ildhafn hosted an A&S collegium. These are typically ungarbed events where various things a taught and participants also work on their own projects or swap tips on how to do things.
Over the 2 days we had sessions on book binding, period hand stitching, poison inks, gorget making, how to know a good source for research, an intro to singing and an intro into knot tying, along with a general brainstorming session for idea for things we could do as a group, would like to see more of and some ideas for the Crown event we are hosting in March 2027.
I had intended to sit in on some of the book binding, the poison inks talk and the knot workshop. I actually ended up spending a large part of the event working on a pouch based on the finds in Birka, Sweden. I did sit in on the general discussion, the singing and the knot tying.
Over all it was a pleasant weekend. It was great catching up with people away from the usual hustle and bustle of activity at events.
I came away with some projects to work on for events later this year and for Crown next year. I also found out that the A&S competition categories for Crown next year include bags and pouch’s so I’ll be entering the Birka Pouch I made in that. For more on the pouch take a look at the project entry for it.
